The Dripping Noise
By: Lilly Wittwer
I took off my Halloween costume, washed the paint off my face, put on my pajamas,
brushed my teeth, and went to bed. I was almost asleep when I first heard sound, "drip drip drip.
" My first thought was, "ugh, another leak?! I'll just fix it in the morning." (By the way, I live in a
house all by myself, because my parents and sister died in a fire. My only companions are my
dog named kitty, and my grandparents that live a couple blocks away.) Anyway, I stuck my
hand under my bed so that kitty could lick my hand, and when she licked my hand I went back
to bed, reassured.

It was 12:06, and I woke up to the sound of dripping, (again!) This time the sound was
louder and more constant. I still didn't feel like getting up, so I stuck my hand under the bed, got
a lick from kitty and went back to bed. I woke up again, at 2:23 in the morning and this time the
sound was really loud, and fast. Drip, drip, drip. I finally couldn't stand it any longer! I stood up on
the cold tile floor, (wishing I had socks on) and went into the kitchen to see if it was coming from
the kitchen, and realized that the sound was coming from the bathroom. I held my breath as I
waited to see how bad the leak was. What I saw almost made me faint. Kitty was hanging from
the ceiling, her lifeless eyes staring at me, blood dripping down from her. But the thing that really
caught my eye was the message on the wall...written in blood. It said, " humans can lick too."

I ran. Out of the bathroom, and straight into my room (the closest room to the bathroom)
and hid. Then I saw out of the corner of my eye a humanoid figure coming out from under my
bed, and I quickly opened my window and jumped out. I was too late. Right as I was jumping
out I felt him grab my ankle, but instead of pulling me back it just made me face plant in the
rocks outside my house. I didn't stop or even care about the pain though, as I scrambled to my
feet and booked it as fast as I could to my grandparent's house. I heard the sound of the guy jumping smoothly out of my window, and chasing me. By the time I finally reached my house I was pretty sure I had lost him, but I still knocked and rang the door bell furiously until finally my grandparents answered the door. Just in time, I saw the guy that was chasing me glance at me angrily then continue running on like nothing happened. After we were safe inside I told my grandparents about the guy that was chasing me, and all that had happened. They didn't believe a thing I told them, and when I went back to my house to prove to them I wasn't lying, everything was back to normal. Then, next Halloween my grandparents left to go somewhere and I was home alone. That is when I heard the dripping noise. They never again doubted me about the guy that chased me, or about the dripping noise.

The End
That was a great story. I have actually heard that story before by one of my friends. I like how you detailed your writing and how your story was so spooky. One thing it could use is a dog instead of a cat or a kitty.
ReplyDeleteit was a dog named kitty...
DeleteI liked how you made the story really detailed. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLilly that was an awesome story! I loved how it was really mysterious. I was waiting to see what the dripping noise was. You left me on the edge of my seat! One thing that I would have fixed was to not forget a space or the word a. Just double check to make sure everything is correct. Those are the only things that could have been fixed but, other than that I thought it was a truly amazing and scary story. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI liked your story, it made me a bit fearful. Um, you really don't need to fix anything except that I didn't really get what you meant by
ReplyDelete"They never doubted me again", I just wanted to know if she died or just something happened?
Overall, your story is good and I liked it.
The message on the wall saying that humans could lick too also made the story awesome and suspenseful.
ReplyDeleteI loved your story. It was very detailed and well planned. All I would say is that I would have liked more elaboration at the end when her grandparents said they never doubted her again, otherwise it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Lilly! I really liked how suspenseful it was! Maybe you could explain a little more about why "They never again doubted me again about the guy that chased me, or about the dripping noise."
