My Haunted House
In all this time that I have lived alone in this house, I swear to God that I've closed more doors than
I opened. I was getting ready for Halloween getting all the decorations I needed from the store and getting
all the candy I could buy just for one day a year, Halloween. Last year there were so many kids and teenagers
trick or-treating that I ran out of candy and had to see so many kids all disappointed. Anyways, I came back
from my home set all the decorations and went to the couch to watch something on the television. As I was
looking to see what to watch I felt a strong breeze. Strange. I never opened any windows nor left any windows
opened when I left to go to the store. I sat up and shut the door when I noticed that it was drizzling, then
raining. Hard. There was a storm coming today and nothing makes me more happy than to be wrapped up
in a thick blanket watching tv and looking outside the window to see rain. It was about 11 :24 when I
started to get ready for bed. I had already turned off all the lights except for the bathroom light and my
little night light I had in my room. I remembered the first time buy this house. The lady had said
“ Full disclosure, this space is allegedly haunted.’’ but hey, this house didn’t really cost a lot of money
and wouldn’t put my wallet on a diet. Who wouldn’t say no to a thing like that? This girl. Besides, I
didn’t really care about the “ this house is haunted” kind of thing and I didn’t believe in ghosts. I closed
my eyes and went to sleep.

I woke up to the sound of lightning and looked at my alarm. It was 12:05, already October 31st. I
wanted to go back to sleep but I couldn’t. I heard someone whisper my name “ Heather---”. I thought it
was just the wind and thought I left a window opened or something, but I looked around and there were
only two windows in my room both shut. The bathroom door was opened, as always but the lights were
flickering on and off. I mean come on! I barely put on a new light bulb and everything, geez I knew this
house was old but I never thought it was that old. I could see that because the bathroom was right next to
my bedroom. I felt hungry so I went downstairs to get a late night snack. I have lived here for so long
that i could almost know where everything was without my eyes opened. I went to the living room and
just when I was about to turn on the light from the lamp I felt a hand there too. A cold hand. I was shocked
standing in there, in the dark. I froze and couldn’t even take a single step back. OK I lied my whole body
was shaking and goosebumps all over me. I asked myself, What just happened?. Still standing there in
the dark, I didn’t even turn on the light. That wasn’t a ghost because it felt so real, real and cold. Moments
later the lamp turned on and I saw nothing in the living room. I was relieved until I noticed seconds later
that I still didn’t turn on the lights myself. I had my phone in my pocket so I turned it on and saw what
time it was. Still hard to see because my hands were trembling, it was 12:08. That wasn’t the only thing
I saw, there was a picture in my phone of me sleeping. I live alone.
