Spooky

I took off my Halloween costume, washed the paint off my face, put on my pajamas,
brushed my teeth, and went to bed. I was drifting asleep when I first heard the sound
Tip tap tip tap. Eh, nothing but the rain, I thought. But now that I look back at it, man it was definitely not raining.
The sounds steadily became louder and more constant, oh come on the rain won’t hurt me. But for some reason, something in my gut just wouldn’t allow my brain to relax and fall asleep. Ding dong ding dong I glance at my phone to see the time, 12:27
a.m,  why would someone trick or treat this late? I get up to peek through my curtains to
see who would be out this late at night, especially in the rain. I slowly crawl out of bed no
one is by the door, my first thought is great some jerks decided to doorbell ditch me--how
thoughtful. As I am peeking, I see the bright stars, wait stars? I could have sworn it was
raining but, not even hint of a cloud in the sky!
While I grumble a few complaints I climb back into my warm cozy bed to finally fall asleep.

I think I might have finally gotten a few minutes of sleep but the noise TIP TAP TIP TAP Now much louder and more constant. I knew it wasn’t raining so what could it be? Not any of my roommates. They were visiting family over the weekend or out doing something.  As I open my eyes I hear footsteps creaking on my floor but, I had tile floor, not wood. “Oh come on Sarah I know it's you! Can’t scare me this time!!” The footsteps stop abruptly. I am frozen with terror and suddenly a cold draft sucks all the warm air out of me and leaves me dumb yet I am snug under my blankets. “All of this is in my head” I whisper. I quickly get up to grab another blanket as soon and my feet touch the floor the light at the front door flicks on for 5 seconds. As soon as it turned on it flicks off. I hear a scream. I don’t know if it is coming from someone else. A cold hand wraps around my ankle. I try to scream but nothing relieves the air that is building up in my lungs now starting to hurt with the pressure. The hand grips my leg firmer anchoring me to the ground. With my other leg, I blindly kick under the bed finally free I shake my self and run to the door. I hear something scrambling to follow me, I glance over my shoulder and see a shadowy figure as I run from my empty house. As I sprint down the abandoned street I hear them gaining on me, only a few steps behind. With a burst of energy, I dash across Sophie's lawn I catch a glimpse of Sophie on the couch watching a movie. I pound on the door. It opens almost as if Sophie was waiting for me, and I tell her everything. Suddenly I hear glass break and a scream. We both run to the kitchen and flip the lights on, the lights only come on for a second or two we both see the shadow. Out of fear I grab for her knife drawer and randomly select one. “ Try the lights again!” I try to shout but probably came out like a little squeak. When she does it gives me just enough time to spot the shadow, which it is much closer now. Just when the lights flick off I throw the knife. Suddenly the lights flick on and the shadow is gone almost as it if it evaporated.  But who knows if he really evaporated and what if he comes back to haunt me again in the future

  1. When I was reading this I was so freaked out! This is something that makes me nervous! Your story was written so well too! The description was amazing and it felt like I was there! One thing I would do next time is split that one big paragraph into 2 separate ones. I loved reading this!

  2. This story was so scary, I was in suspense the whole time! I liked the words you chose to tell the story, it flowed very well. Maybe next time you could have a stronger conclusion. Keep up the great writing!
