The Nerd
Episode 23
Produced by Kyla Larsen
Open on a bunk bed (I am on the top)
Narrator: "Today, we are exploring the life of a 7th grader named Kyla."
I groan as my alarm turns on and roll over burrito style
Narrator: "Watch as she uses the burrito technique to protect herself from the cold."
"Alexa, stop!" I shout
Narrator: "She uses her speech to stop the incessant noises."
I slowly get out of bed and slowly slide down the ladder
My room is messy, with clothes and miscellaneous items everywhere
Narrator: "Observe the natural habitat of 'The Girls' Room.'"
I groan and drag myself out of bed
Narrator: "What's this? She is stirring from her nightly hibernation!"
Narrator: "This may take a while, so let's fast forward to 20 minutes later!"
I walk out of my room in jeans and a t-shirt and shuffle to the bathroom where I brush my teeth and put my contacts in
Narrator: "These are the natural daily cleaning rituals taken by many 7th graders to upkeep personal hygiene."
I drop a bar of soap on the floor and slip on the soap, causing me to fall abruptly
Narrator: "Careful there! That's slippery!"
I look at the camera and roll my eyes
Eventually I go to making my lunch and breakfast, then I barely catch the bus as my family shout various farewells to me
"Bye, Kyla." Says dad
"Have a good day!" Says mom
"Mm.." Says Arwen, the middle child
"Kyla, you should close your mouth when you chew." Says Darien, the youngest
"Make good choices!" Says Bryan
Narrator: "That last one was the uncle, who does that every time that someone leaves the house."
"You too, Bryan!" I say half sweetly, half sarcastically
Once I am on the bus, I lean my head against the window, but sit back up abruptly, covering my eye
Narrator: "This is what happens when you put your eye too close to the metal bars separating the windows."
Ugh, I hate waking up in the morning. I mutter
Once I am at school, I do Mathspace in advisory.
Narrator: "Witness the extreme mundane of Mathspace! So boring, it brings grown men to their knees."
I blur through the rest of the day, people bumping into me, and the narrator commentating my actions
When school is out, I go to Science Olympiad, where I start building and researching and going over the rules.
Narrator: "This particular region of the jungle is the Science nerds, who enjoy problem solving and how everything around us works. Curiosity makes the world go round, or at least that's how people learned how the world spins around."
When I get home, I collapse on the couch and watch YouTube videos by Braille.
My siblings eventually get home and they start playing on their computers.
I curl on the couch, to hide
Narrator: "Her main defense mechanism is the curl to block out her siblings shouting at each other.
I do my homework after a while, and I practice the piano.
My parents get home, and I skateboard around the front of the house.
Dang it! I can't seem to get the olley!
Narrator: "She seems to struggle with a certain skateboarding trick, and may need some help.
After a while I go inside, we eat dinner, and watch Once Upon a Time.
I go to bed and listen to an audiobook for a while, then fall asleep.
Narrator (quietly): I think she is asleep, let us leave and let her get ready for another day...
Scene fades, and end credits roll with jazzy music.
I liked how you used descriptive words it really drew an image in my mind.Next time try to break it into sections or paragraphs.
