Language Arts success tips.

READ THIS BLOG POST  BECAUSE  IT  WILL  GIVE  YOU  THE  MOST  VALID  AND  USEFUL  INFORMATION  YOU  WILL  NEED  TO  KNOW  IN  ORDER  TO  SUCCEED  IN  7th  GRADE  LA
Note: This list is not ordered from most important to least, or from least important to most. They are all equally important in the same way almost every organ in your body is important for survival.

#1. DO THE WRITING CONTEST NO MATTER WHAT
The writing contest is a huge part of your grade. Even if you think you can do really good on everything else, and skip out on the contest, YOU ARE WRONG!!! First of all, even if you try your hardest, you won't do perfect on everything else. Many things are worth a low amount of points (from 4 to 10), so if you miss one point on an assignment it will lower that assignment to 75 or 80%. So, if you don't do the writing contest it will drop your grade like a hot-pocket.

#2. DO YOUR BEST ON EVERY ASSIGNMENT YOU GET
Like I said before, assignments are worth a low amount of points so if you miss one point it could drop your score about 20%

#3. TURN IN EVERY ASSIGNMENT ON TIME
Every assignment is worth a low amount of points, so since you won't be getting 100% on all assignments and that will be weighing down your grade, you will need all the credit you can get. If you turn it in late you will lose points even if it is outstanding work. The more work you turn in late, the more upset you will make Mrs. Robins. The more upset Mrs. Robins gets, the more likely it is she will just say "I am not accepting any more late work for any assignments for the rest of the year!" And then if you were the one turning in late work, it would be a habit by then, and simply put, you would be doomed. (Mrs. Robins, if you are reading this, just know you are not unpleasant in any way, and even when you are upset and stressed you are still my favorite teacher!)
#4. DO EXTRA CREDIT WRITING CONTESTS if allowed
Extra credit writing contests are the one thing you can do to keep a good grade. AGAIN assignments are worth a low amount of points. With extra credit, it doesn't matter how good you do, because you won't lose any points! But you still need to try.
#5.CARE ABOUT YOUR GRADE
I didn't worry about my grade, and, until the end of each trimester, I didn't realize why my grade really mattered. I would always get poor grades, then midterm or the end of the trimester would roll around. I would rapidly scramble, frantically, desperately searching for extra credit the same way a hobo might desperately search for extra food someone might have for him to eat. If the hobo doesn't get fed, he dies, and if my grade didn't go up I would get kicked out of honors LA. I managed to stay in (miraculously) until the end of the year. Then on the very last day of school, I was kicked out. I should have kept my grades up. BUT HERE IS WHY GRADES MATTER: if you want into honors language arts next year (eighth grade), you have to get good grades (or know the teacher, because if you know the teacher she will most likely know you too, then she would be completely BIASED and put you into honors). An A would be best. If you get into honors language arts in eighth grade, it increases your chances of getting into honors the next year, then AP (advanced placement), or, best of all, concurrent enrollment! That's college level courses in high school, with college credit, and (almost) no fees! That way you won't have to waste all that money on certain college courses, and you will have less student loans to pay off, that way you can save more money, keep a family well fed (unless you are a teacher, in which case you go to school to learn how to teach, then you come back with tons of student loan payments to pay off, and no money to pay it off with!), and in the end be better off financially and have a happier family. #7. READ EVERY NIGHT Dear Mrs. Robins,    I was hoping you wouldn't notice I skipped a number, but since you are really smart you probably did. I hope to count number five as two different numbers because it is so long. I know you will understand. 
Read, read, read! It's required, it's fun, and you get rewards from it! Mrs. Robins LOVES to give robins rewards to those who read the night before, and it really isn't too hard. Just read a chapter or two every night before you go to bed, and you'll get Robins Rewards, and you'll pass off more books for the Iread!
#8. GET ALONG, HAVE FUN, AND ENJOY LA
You might find yourself working with others more often than you would expect (or enjoy), so get used to it, make friends, and for Pete's sake DON'T ARGUE! Arguing groups get less work done and consequently, you will have homework if you chose to debate.
#9. LISTEN TO MRS. ROBINS
If Mrs. Robins respects you, respect her back. Even if she doesn't respect you (which I find highly improbable because Mrs. Robins is an excellent, kind teacher) you still need to respect her. If it weren't for her, you wouldn't be learning all this stuff every day in such a fun way. Seriously, the way Mrs. Robins teaches is sooooo fun that I wish I had her next year, but she probably doesn't want me back in her class, so yeah.
#10. WORK SUPER HARD THE FIRST TRIMESTER, THEN THE REST WILL BE EASIER
By working super hard the first trimester, you get on Mrs. Robin's good side, and she enjoys teaching you even more. The more she enjoys teaching you, the easier it will be to maintain a good grade. If you are lost I will explain. If she likes you she will be biased when grading your homework, and you will get better grades. P.S. It's really good for teachers to be biased, so that is what you should aim for. Except some teachers raise the standards for students they like. You know what, scratch all that. Don't be her favorite, don't be her least favorite and don't be right in the middle either. And don't be below middle, but it's sorta risky to be above middle, but being below middle is certain death, and if you are in the middle the teacher will just ignore you and it will be like you are at the bottom... Umm...  I guess just stay slightly above middle and in case none of this helps you at all I will put a number eleven.
#11. BE PRODUCTIVE
Be productive and get work done during the time offered in class, and be creative while doing it! Language arts is all about being creative and drawing the attention of the reader to result in an amazing piece of art whether it be poetry, an essay, or just some fun creative writing! I will miss seventh grade, and I  have heard so many terrible things about eighth grade that I wouldn't dare to repeat. Love seventh grade before it's gone, and enjoy every moment of it. I regret that this will be my last blog post ever. Good bye seventh grade, and hello eighth.

To all the new 7th graders:

Top Ten Tips To Surviving Seventh Grade!!!!

First, believe in yourself!!!!
Second, Caffeine is your friend!

Those may be true, but there is more to getting a good grade and having a good time in class than self-confidence and caffeine.

LISTEN UP: 7th grade is a hard time, and there are many things that I have learned that I wish I knew at the beginning of the year. Please, PLEASE, heed my directions, or your year will be as hard as mine was. I'm not trying to scare you off, because there have been some really good times for me, but if you want life to go smoothly, I would suggest lending an ear. (Or an eye, geddit? You know, because you are reading this??? No? Fine, I'll leave. Just kidding! I don't want to be responsible for future 7th graders failing this class.)

1. DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
I know everyone is going to be covering this subject, but it is the truth! Don't procrastinate, because it will make your life hard. I went through the school year with missing assignments, and putting stuff to the last moment, and it was not fun. I survived, barely. Make sure to get your work done before the deadline, preferably as soon as possible.

2. Do your work on time
This goes along with not procrastinating, but always do your work on time! If you want a good grade, turn your assignments in as fast as you can. Get a planner, or something, because you can't forget your assignments. I tried to get in the habit of using a planner, but I kept forgetting! Try to be less like me, and do your best!

3. Don't talk when the teacher is talking
NEVER do this! This will show that you are both not listening to the instructions you are being taught, and you don't care about the teacher or the class. You could also distract your fellow students, making it hard for them to do anything, as well. You could get bad grades, and your friends could get bad grades.

4. Don't cheat
I never did this one, but there are many people who have, and it is a very dangerous slope. Cheating on tests or assignments is just wrong, and like #3, you could harm your friends as well. You could get ISS (In School Suspension), or you could get an NP on your test or assignment. If just being a good person isn't enough, do it for your grades, Or the fact that your parents could get a call from the school, then you'd be in trouble!

5. Befriend the teacher
This one is a good one to learn, because teachers are people, too. They have troubles, hopes, and dreams, just like you. If you become friends with a teacher, they are more likely to help you, and then you will succeed in any class. It is also nice to have someone to talk to if you need help with an assignment, or just to lend an ear.

6. If you talk a lot, don't sit next to your friends
This goes along with #3, don't talk when the teacher is talking, because if you don't sit next to your friends, you will be less likely to talk to them, and then, you won't have to deal with getting in trouble, or feeling embarrassed if they call you out. If you can't sit next to someone you know without talking, don't sit by them!

7. Ask for help
Always ask for help if you are stuck, and never just go on without knowing. Get good grades! Ask your friends, your parents, or any teacher, and they would help you. If you aren't in a place where you can get help from others, ask the internet, but only use viable sources, with endings like .org, .net, or .gov.

8. Write fast
This one is mostly important for Language Arts, but it could be used in any amount of classes. If you write fast, you will get your assignments done during class, but remember to take your time when finding the answers. Also, keep it legible!

9. Always try to be at school
This is why our school does strive for 5, because they want students to learn. If you don't, you could miss assignments, and you will have to spend precious time doing assignments instead of doing the things that you like to do. If you're stuck with this, ask a parent to help you do your assignments.

10. Have fun!
Lastly, the most important, have fun! This class is a really great class, and you should look forward to it! Just follow the rules, and have a good time! Don't talk in class, though. If you heed my advice, this last one should come easily.

7th Grade Language Arts

that you have plenty.

super hard but in reality they’re super easy.

read the blog, this is where Mrs. Robins

will keep you updated on what’s coming up.

5. Keep Your Grade Up: Always keep

your grade up otherwise

you’ll get lazy and not want

to do anymore homework.

once in awhile I suggest go for the IRead club.

7. Ask Questions: If your

confused ask questions it doesn’t hurt to ask.

8. Stay On Task: Keep on task and you’re sure to have a GREAT year!

otherwise you won’t know what to do

and that will suck very badly.

10. Turn Work in Early: It will

actually help a lot more to do

work early just so you

don’t have to worry about it.

10 things you need to know to Succeed in Honors L.A

Don't procrastinate- The biggest thing I can tell you is DO NOT procrastinate it is the
worst thing you could do. Make sure you don't do your blog post and writing contest the day
before I've done it before and it is not fun.

Pay Attention- You need to pay attention during class because in honors you have to
do the newspaper and stuff like that so Mrs Robins needs to teach the regular material fast
and if you don’t pay attention you will be lost.  

Turn your work in on time- This is important because when you turn things in
late you get docked points. Over time those docked points start adding up and really affect
your grade.

Read- You need to read a certain amount of books each trimester so it's important to read
and get it over with. There's also a IRead party at the end of the year if you read 36 books.
The party is really fun, so make sure to read!

Always be prepared- You need to make sure you are always prepared. If you are
in honors you need to get ready for homework.That work that needs to be done at home
needs to be done by that day or she will dock points. Also you will have to sit in the hall to
finish it. Not fun.

Cheek the blog and your email- Every day make sure to check your email.
She will send you important things by email. I personally missed the memo for a few events
because I didn’t check my email so learn from my mistake. You also need to check
Mrs.Robins blog at least every Monday to know what's happening in her class and always
be checking the writing blog for more contests.

Ask questions- Don't be afraid to ask questions. You don't want to be that student
that just sits there and doesn’t get any work done because they didn’t know what to do.
She's not going to get mad at you for just asking a question. She doesn’t bite!

Keep up your grades-  Make sure to constantly be checking power school. You
need to keep your grades up to stay in honors. If you have a bad grade you can be kicked
out. Also it's just a thing you should be doing in general not just Language Arts. Check your
grades for other classes also.

Be nice- You need to be nice to your fellow classmates, you will be working with them
everyday for a whole school year. Your teachers, you need to appreciate the teachers you
have in seventh grade because they are the best teachers in the whole school. Last
Mrs Robins, she does so much for everyone and you need to appreciate how awesome
she is.

Have Fun- Lastly have fun! I know school isn’t the ideal way to have fun but make
something out of it. We also get to do super fun stuff like the newspaper and activities that
the other classes don't get to do.  Although this is an Honors class and it will be hard and
stressful at times have a good attitude.

Top 10 Useful Tips For Surviving 7th Grade LA:

1. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!!!

If you procrastinate, you will regret it when your assignments are due. (I’m not kidding.)
Procrastination may very well be one of the worst habits you can develop, and it will make
7th grade WAY more stressful!

2. READ!!!

Even if you don’t like to read, it will help you A LOT in 7th grade. Not only is reading beneficial,
but it’s also really fun if you choose the right book. (I would recommend Rick Riordan and
Brandon Mull books.) Also, if you read a lot, then you can go to the I Read party, which is
definitely worth it.

3. KEEP YOUR GRADES UP!!!

Keeping your grades up is always a good idea, but in language arts it is an especially good
idea. Grades can be really hard to raise, so make sure they’re high all the time, and you won’t
get a bad grade. Also, if you always do your work and have a good grade in language arts, then
you will most likely get on Mrs. Robins’ good side.

4. DON’T BE DRAMATIC!!!

First of all, nobody likes it when there is drama. Second of all, it makes people feel left out,
unimportant, and jealous. Nothing good comes from drama, and it certainly doesn’t make the
teachers’ lives easier.

5. TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME!!!

I can’t tell you how many times I took the time to do an assignment as best as I could, and then
I forgot to turn it in on time, and I got a bad grade on it. It SUCKS! So remember, when you do an
assignment, turn it in on time!

6. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS!!!

I would definitely recommend paying attention in class, because Mrs. Robins is always trying to
help you succeed. Plus, Mrs. Robins will like you a lot more if you listen during class. It will also
help you with end of year testing.

7. LEARN TO LOVE WRITING!!!

In 7th grade you have to write a lot of essays, so it’s a really good idea to learn to love writing.
Even if you hate writing right now, you might end up enjoying it later on if you keep an open mind.
Also, it’s always easier to write an essay if you enjoy writing.

8. CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!

I’m not gonna lie, I may very well be the worst at checking my email. Whenever I go into my email,
I usually have about a thousand emails. Checking your email is very important, because Mrs. Robins
puts emails out a lot in 7th grade, and they are always worth checking.

9. DON’T STEAL MRS. ROBINS’ BOOKS!!!

This might seem really random, but it actually happens way more often than you’d think. In fact,
Mrs. Robins usually ends up replacing so many books that it costs her over $100! Also, if you
steal Mrs. Robins’ books it definitely doesn’t put you on her good side.

10. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES!!!

Honors language arts can be pretty tough to get a good grade in, so remember to take advantage
of extra credit opportunities! Also, extra credit opportunities don’t come very often, so when Mrs. Robins
gives you the opportunity to get extra credit, TAKE IT!!!

Top 10 Things You Need to Know to Succeed in 7th Grade Honors Language Arts

Let’s get this straight, this class was the absolute BEST Language Arts class in the history of
Language Arts classes! It has been a joy to be in such a great class, with great classmates
and an AMAZING teacher! Although I am sad to say goodbye to LRIS, I am still excited to go
to Snow Canyon Middle School next year!

Although this class does have it’s perks, I'm not going to lie, it takes a LOT of hard work. I
spent several nights climbing into bed only to realize that I had forgotten to do an assignment!
So, in honor of that situation, my first tip to succeed 7th grade Honors Language Arts will be;

1. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!!!!!

I can’t even count how many times I procrastinated throughout the year and let me tell you,
it was not fun. In the end, you start to hyperventilate and freak out, because you know that
you’re not going to get the assignment done on time. (Or at least that’s what happened to me.)
It may not be as horrible as I’m making it seem, but I still strongly advise against it.

   2. Always Be Prepared

Don’t even get me started on how important this is! You should ALWAYS be prepared to
class, or you are most likely not going to survive 7th grade Language Arts Honors. It is so
important to have all your required work done before you even walk into the classroom! Also,
always having a working pencil and some extra lined paper along with your language arts
notebook is always handy because you never know what you might be doing in class that day.

   3. Make Sure to Read!!!

This is another essential tip that you need to follow if you want to succeed in this class.
Reading not only expands your vocabulary and is a great way to learn new things, but it is
just fun to read! The IRead club party is also another reason why you should read books. If
you read a whole bingo sheet (which consists of 36 books) by the end of the year you get to
go to the IRead party, which you definitely don’t want to miss out on! You also get a t-shirt
and candy if you qualify for the IRead club!

    

    4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask For Help

This is something I did all the time throughout this school year. Whenever I needed extra help
on an assignment, or I didn’t get something, or I had a question about my grade I always
asked Mrs. Robins for help. Mrs. Robins is the type of teacher who would do anything and
everything to help her students with questions, and I guarantee you that she will help you
with any type of language arts questions that you have. So, moral of the story is, don’t be
scared that you might look stupid if you have a question about something because the
chances are that another one of your classmates has the same question.

   5. Turn In Your Work On Time

By far, this is the MOST important tip of all. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TURN IN YOUR WORK
ON TIME. This has been a struggle for me all year long, especially because I procrastinated
a lot. If you turn in your work late you will get points deducted from that assignment no matter
how good it was. Plus, turning in work late looks bad, and you probably shouldn't try out for
Honors Language Arts classes if you turn in work late on a regular basis.

   6. Always Check Your Gmail and Mrs. Robins Website

Mrs. Robins is the kindest, sweetest language arts teacher you will ever have. One of the
many helpful things she does during the school year is her weekly schedule. She always puts
up what we are doing in class for the week on her website, and she even reminds you to
check her website through Gmail every weekend! Isn’t that great?! You will never have to
worry about what you will be doing during the week again! (Well, at least in her class you
won’t) Also, it is important to check your Gmail because Mrs. Robins usually reminds you of
what is due, so don’t forget.

   7. Always Take Advantage Of Any Extra Credit Opportunities

Extra Credit is something you definitely need to take advantage of in this class. It is always
good to stock up on all that extra credit in case you miss an assignment you can’t make up,
or you get a bad grade on an assignment that you can’t redo. I can’t even count how many
times extra credit saved my tush this year. (Well, I probably could if I looked in PowerSchool,
but that’s beside the fact that extra credit is definitely a lifesaver when it comes to your grade.)

   8. Pay Attention In Class

This is a no brainer right here. You should always be paying attention in class! If you don’t,
well, you are pretty much screwed and you should NOT be trying out for 7th grade Honors
Language Arts. Paying attention in class is pretty much the key to getting a good grade in
this class, and honestly, it’s not that hard to just listen and pay attention to what the teacher is
saying instead of talking to your friends. So, in a nutshell, this tip is hands down one of the
more important tips out of this list.

   9. Do Your Absolute Best!

I understand that some people are just flat out lazy, and don’t do the best work they could.
So, in that case, I’m just going to come right out and say it, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR BEST
ON EVERY ASSIGNMENT! This class has a little bit more work then the rest of the classes,
and you always need to do your best or you run the risk of being kicked out of the class, and
you don’t want that do you? Plus, if you don’t do your best work than you can never really live
up to your full potential!

   10. Have Fun In This Class!

This class isn’t supposed to be stressful or overwork you. It is supposed to be fun and teach
you more skill in language arts than you would in a regular class. So be creative and have fun
with the assignments you have to do, not all the assignments are just boring butt loads of
work. It is good to have fun in this class and to let your creative juices flow.

To sum up this list of tips, I just wanted to say that this class really is a lot of fun, and
Mrs. Robins is definitely an amazing teacher, and I am sad to be leaving 7th grade
Honors Language Arts behind. It has been a great year, full of amazing experiences
and I am so glad I was able to be a part of this class.
