The History of Saint Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day is a holiday to wear green. If you don't, you may get pinched! This holiday was first celebrated in the mid 19th century. You may think that the first parade of St. Patrick's Day was in Ireland, but it was really in New York in 1762. Since then, many Irish immigrants have moved to the United States and the holiday has grown even bigger and bigger every year!! My family doesn't really go big with the holiday, but it just gives us another reason to pinch one another. ;) Around the United States people go all out like. They have big parades, parties, and some people even celebrate the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and have festivals. As you can see St. Patrick's Day is a day with many roots and lots of traditions.
