History of St. Patrick's Day

Most of you have heard of St.Patrick's day. What is the first thing you think of when
you hear St.Patrick's day? Maybe you think of the color green, or you think of leprechauns,
a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end, four leaf clovers, Irish people or sometimes you even
think of pinching. But what actually is St. Patrick's day? Who even is St. Patrick anyway? It all
started when Maewyn Succat, also known as St. Patrick was born. He was born in Rome
Britain In the late 4th century. Succat was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as
a slave. He escaped but returned to convert the Irish into Christianity. He died on March 17,
461, by this time he had established schools, monasteries, and churches. Immigrants where
the ones that started this huge holiday. Now people celebrate this holiday by wearing green
and pinching people who don't. There's a lot of traditions in different countries, cities, and
families, for example parades. The first St. Patrick's day parade was in Boston USA not in
Ireland or New York. In my family we don’t really celebrate St. Patrick's day. We never really
pay attention to it. Usually if I remember I try to wear something green and hope for the best.
So next time you think of St. Patrick's day think of its interesting background.
