The History of St. Patrick's day
A lot of people know St. Patrick's Day (Feast Day) as the day that you wear green and get punched if you don't, but what even is St. Patrick's Day? St. Patrick's Day started off because of St. Patrick, a patron saint of Ireland. He was kidnapped when he was 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned to his home (Britain) to convert Irish to the religion Christianity. Before he died he had established monasteries, churches, and schools. He died March 17, 461. There are many legends about him, including that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, the unity of Father, Son, and Holy spirit. Ireland celebrates this day with religious services and feasts. According to the article, Saint Patrick's Day, it states, "It was emigrants, particularly to the United States, who transformed St. Patrick's Day into a largely secular holiday of revelry and celebration of things Irish. Cities with large numbers of Irish immigrants, who often wielded political power, staged the most extensive celebrations, which included elaborate parades." I do myself celebrate St. Patrick's Day, my mom is Irish. We celebrate by wearing green and making corned beef. One year my dad had my mom get the corned beef but she accidentally got a pot roast, good times!
Great job! I really liked your introduction, and how you said how you are related to St. Patrick's Day. One thing you could work on though, is wrapping up your paragraph. All in all though, good job!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to a St. Patrick parade thing. That'd cool. According to Lilly, we have the same problem. Neither of us can stop talking/writing. So that's a thing... You were able to use personal anecdotes, which made it a lot more interesting to read. Good Job.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Haley!! I love your paragraph!!
