Always read the Instructions

"What is that AWFUL smell?" I asked. Then I saw the cauldron full of bubbling purple liquid.
“Oh,” said mom. “I thought since it was Halloween I would spice up our meal with some food coloring”.
“Well, it definitely looks…ummm…mysterious?” I said. “What is it?” I asked nervously.
“It’s chicken and wild rice soup” my mom said very matter-of-factly.
Eating that dinner was very difficult, because my mom kept telling me it was chicken, but I couldn’t help but imagining that it was, well, not chicken. I think the food coloring was a bit too much. I think I tasted more purple dye than food. But, it got worse.

I went upstairs to put on my Halloween costume. I already wasn’t in the greatest mood, because my best friend had to perform at Thriller instead of going trick or treating with me. I went into the bathroom to put the finishing touches on my costume only to see that my mouth was PURPLE!!! Trying not to panic, I brushed my teeth for probably ten minutes straight. I was afraid to look. I slowly opened my eyes, not sure if I was ready for my reflection… and phew! My teeth were back to their usual shade.

“Piper hurry up. If I don’t get candy in five minutes, I might literally die!” came the voice of my very impatient brother, Finn.
“I’m coming, let me just grab my bag and we can go”, I said in an annoyed voice.
Finn did not have a purple mouth because he refused to eat my mom’s chunky, slime soup. And honestly, I don’t blame him.

We had just started to walk outside when I was suddenly very hot. This was strange because it was 65 degrees. The more we walked the more I regretted wearing long sleeves.
That’s when Finn asked, “Piper are you ok? Did you eat too much candy?”
“I’m fine.” I replied.
“You look kinda, well, how do I explain this to you?” Finn said.
And he didn’t need to explain it. I looked down at my arm, pulled my sleeve up, and saw purple—everywhere. Fuzz was growing rapidly from my head to my toe (no wonder I was so hot!). I rubbed my face, and sure enough, it was covered in a furry layer as well. Of course, I panicked. What would you do if you had a purple fuzzy face? A purple fuzzy everything? I ran as fast as I could back to my house. I came inside and sure enough, there was my mom, bent over the kitchen sink--bright purple, hairy, and scrubbing her face.

“Ugh, it’s not working” my mom said in a worried tone.
“Mom it happened to me too! What did you put in that soup?”  I asked.
“Just purple food dye.” Mom said. “Look, here’s the package”.

The package said, “Halloween ready in minutes! Turn yourself into a hairy beast! Just add the mixture to your food and watch the magic happen.” WARNING: Add only suggested amount. If more is consumed, called a doctor right away.”

“Mom, how much of this did you add?” I asked.
“I just added all of it.” My mom replied obviously confused.
“Did you read the box?” I said.
“Not really…” My mom replied. “Instructions are so boring.”

I explained to my mom that we should probably get to a doctor’s office. We walked through the office doors, expecting to have everyone stare at us. To my surprise, there was a HUGE line of purple, fuzzy monsters! They all looked like us! The doctors were prepared and acted like this was a totally normal thing. They simply smiled and calmly handed out small orange pills. We took them and almost immediately our “hairy beast” look was fading away! We drove home and ate candy and lived happily ever after.

The End!

The Noise
By: Alexa Harrell

I took off my Halloween costume, washed the paint off my face, put on my pajamas,
brushed my teeth, and went to bed. I was almost asleep when I first heard the sound,
a light tapping noise. At first I thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me, but
about a minute later I heard the sound again accompanied by scratching. Once
again, I told myself that it was probably nothing. After a few minutes of not hearing
the sound, I finally nodded off into a light sleep.

I was drowned by darkness. I looked up, or at least what I thought was up.
I started to hear the tapping again, except this time it was accompanied by
a low, raspy whisper. I couldn’t make out the words well enough to make
sense of them. But it scared me enough to encourage me to at least try to find
a way out of the darkness. I jumped up and stuck my hands out in front of me,
I took a step when everything around me changed. I was in a dimly lit room this
time, it was empty with no doors. I started to hear the whispering again, I
whipped around and saw the most terrifying thing in the world. A man with
chunks of his flesh missing on his face, and he held a pocket knife in his hand.
I could finally hear what he was saying, “I’m going to get you.” he said, as he
started to run towards me. I jolted awake, sweat dripping from my forehead. I
looked at my alarm clock, it read 6:37. I decided to just get ready for the day
because there was no way that I was ever going to fall back asleep after that
nightmare.

A few months later while I was cleaning the window in my room, I saw what looked
like scratches. At first it just looked like a few random scratches, but when I looked
closer at it, I realized that it was 7 small words. “Don’t worry, I’ll get you next Halloween.”

Halloween Spooky Story: Super Litt

I took off my Halloween costume, washed the paint off my face, put on my pajamas, brushed my
teeth, and went to bed. I was almost asleep when I first heard the sound: YEET THE BABY!!
As anyone would be I went to the window by my bedside with a very curious look on my face, and
saw the two Alhen children Allie and Cohen. I rolled my eyes as they yelled YEET THE BABY as
they used there new catapult to send pumpkins into their neighbors (my) yard. The third and final
time i heard them yell their special phrase I heard the heart stopping sound of glass breaking
downstairs and that is when i had it. I got my shorts and shoes on and ran outside right as the
Alhen children were running into their house to the safety of their parents, but I knew that their
parents were at a parent halloween with my parents. I started sprinting to their house and when
i got there i barged in because the two noobs had left the door i saw them run out their back door
so i started after them. I did not know where they had gone so i looked at the back yard and the
gate to the forest was open, so off into the forest i went, not knowing what was in there.

As i went deeper into the forest i tried to follow the trail but it was just way to dark to see about
anything. Pretty soon after found that i had no idea where is was, a chilly and wind blew in from
what seemed nowhere and i soon wished that i had grabbed a jacket or something on the way
out. I also started to rethink why i would follow the two Alhen kids out into the woods. Right then,
i heard a twig snap from where i had just came from so i said in a very frustrated voice, “Come
out right now and it'll save you from a black eye tomorrow.” no reply… i said in a louder voice,
“Come out right NOW”,  As soon as i said that i faintly heard in the very far distance the two
Alhen kids yelling “yeet the baby!” i was very confused at that point. I probably would have
headed home at that time except i had no idea where i was.

About 2 minutes of wandering in the direction where i think the house should be, i started i hearing
a the theme song for the movie IT, i thought that the noise was just in my head but i started
listening closer and i heard that the noise was gradually rising. I knew that it was not Allie and
Cohen because i could still here them yelling their favorite phrase every time they launched a
pumpkin. I started to get worried and i could feel my heart pounding against my chest. A few
minutes passed the theme song was the only thing i could here, it was so loud it seemed that
there was a speaker pressed against my ears full blast. I started to really get sketched out
and i was out of breath from trying to run away from the noise. I started to cry and curled up
in a ball to stay warm and to catch my breath. I looked to the stars to see if i could find my
lucky star and that is when i saw the red ballon that was flying up to the atmosphere.

I was really freaked out now and i was starting to rethink my entire life, all the people that i
was mean to and everything that i was never able to do. I slapped myself thinking that this
was all a dream and i was hoping and praying that it was all a dream, but it was not and i saw
that there was a clearing up ahead and i went in the middle of it thinking that whoever was out
here with him could not creep up on him. As he made his way into the middle he saw a figure
accross the clearing, as he looked closer, he nearly fainted as he recognized the figure from
a movie he has recently watched. It was Pennywise! Pennywise started laughing his crazy
laugh and he started sprinting around the entire clearing about 5 times every 2 seconds. I knew
that i was going to die tonight so i just stood there breathless. Pretty soon Pennywise slowed
down and i knew from the movie that it was time for me to die. I just stood there still, then
when Pennywise started sprinting toward me, the unexpected happened.

An entire pumpkin came hurling through the sky out of nowhere and landed on his head.
Instead of running i just stood there in silence, confusion, and wet pants. I looked right into
the eyes of the pumpkin and i saw that there was a fire that was starting inside, the fire was
leaking out and Pennywise starting laughing his crazy laugh again. I was done with this so i
wound up my leg and kicked Pennywise in his tiny ballz. To my surprise it did nothing, (who
knew Pennywise was a girl). Just like how the pumpkin came. A kitana came flying out of the
sky and came hurling at the head of Pennywise. But of course Pennywise just couldn't let me
live that easy. He caught the kitana mid air, and tossed to the ground. Finally i was done
being silent and scared out of my mind, i round-house kicked her in the face and as he was
flying back from the blow grabbed the kitana and did a triple front flip and drove the kitana
into the heart of Pennywise. And then i found my way home and ate candy after candy after i
slapped the Alhen kids in the face.

The End

One Halloween Night
Tap. Tap. Tap. The sound came from inside the closet. Quietly, I crept toward the
door, I was stuck at home all by myself. It was Halloween night, but Mom had said that
I was too old for trick or treating. That morning I had been so excited for Halloween
and to get a lot of candy, but everything changed when my mom came home and told me
she was going out with some friends and I had to stay home to hand out the candy. She
said I was to old for trick or treating anyways. I was really disappointed. “All of my friends
would be out having fun,” I thought. So when my mom left that night I slumped onto the
chair and turned on the TV. Then, came the knocks, Knock, knock, knock, knock so many knocks by 10:00 I was exhausted so I laid back in the chair turned on the TV and decided not to answer the door any more.

By 10:25 I was almost asleep when I heard a noise in my moms room “it was only 10:30 though
she couldn’t be home yet I thought”. So I silently crept into her room to find that the noise was
coming from the closet. Tap. Tap. Tap. I crept toward the closet door scared out of my mind I ran
out of the room, but while I was running I felt something barely miss my ankle. It was like something
was trying to snatch it. I looked back and the closet was wide open, but nothing was in it. I ran and
tried to open the door, it was locked! I knew I was doomed I had to get out of here. All the sudden the
windows slammed open and a huge gust of wind swooped in and blew me over. Laying there I saw
something crawl back behind my moms bed. It looked big it looked scary it looked deadly! I got up and
ran to the door I kicked it as hard as I can and it busted open. I ran out to find my mom standing there.

“Finally,” I said as I ran to her and squeezed  her so tight. I told her that something was in her room
and it was big and scary. She did not answer. “Mom” I said, “Mom” I said again. Suddenly my mom
grabbed me and through me into her room and said “ Goodnight sweet dreams don’t let the monster
bite, hahahahahahahahahaha.” I screamed as loud as I could “Don’t do this to me mom” I screamed.
Then all was silent except for the footsteps walking across the carpet. I huddled up in the corner
knowing this was the end. Then, I realized my mom had a back door behind the chair “How foolish
of me not to think of that earlier,” I thought. I rushed to the back door struggling to open it  I leapt
outside, its hand inches away from me. It ran out and to my surprise disintegrated right in front of my
eyes. I can still remember that Halloween night. So every Halloween night I always make sure I stay
out past midnight. Also, remember never ever stay home and give out the candy!

The Shortcut
My brother and I were walking through the woods one Halloween day when we saw
what appeared to be a short-cut. "Let's go that way," my brother said, while pointing
down a trail that lead into the dark woods. “Maybe we should just stick to the path,”
I said. “No, we’ll get home faster by going this way. The faster we get home the more
time we have to eat our candy,” he said giving me a sly look. “Okay,” I say giving into
his temptation.
As we start walking we hear a wolf howl at the full moon that is lighting the trail. I
start walking closer to my brother. “You’ll be fine,” he says walking at a bit faster
pace than me. Then we heard a twig snap. “AAAAHHHH,” we both screamed
hugging each other. Then a rabbit ran out of the bush in front of us.
“Well, that surprised me,” my brother said while dusting off his shirt.
“Let’s keep moving.”
Then no joke we heard footsteps coming from somewhere in the woods, followed by a
low growl. We both walked faster, then we heard a high pitched “AAAAHHHH,” we
both started running. The footsteps got louder and faster. Once we were out of the
forest and the footsteps were nowhere to be heard we collapsed onto each other.
Breathlessly I said “Let’s never to that again.”
“Agreed,” my brother said looking at me with grin on his face.

                               Little Cottage
                                        BY: KENNADI GATES

“Ugh. I think I've eaten too much Halloween candy”, Lily said to her mom, When she walked through kitchen door. She had gone trick-or-treating with her friends, Nate and Jacob. When they were trick-or-treating they went to all the rich neighborhoods and got king sized candy bars. Her mom said, “did you eat any peanuts?” “You know you have a peanut allergy!”mom said, “ I totally forgot mom!”I ate like 6 king sized candy bars with peanuts in them, but I did have an apple, which was a healthy choice. (Lily found out she had a peanut allergy the day before.) “Do you think I’ll be okay?” Lily asked her mom” I’m sure you’ll be fine”, Lily’s mom said.

       (The next day)

Lily woke up not feeling very good. “Moooommmm!!” ,Lily said. There was no answer. Lily got up and when she got up she felt really dizzy. She was nauseous walking down the stairs. Lily’s mom was nowhere to be seen. When Lily got into the kitchen she saw a note on the fridge door. Her mom said,” Hey Lils! I ran to the pharmacy to grab a prescription for you. Love mom”. Lily hated taking pills! She went back up stairs and called her friend Nate to come over. While she was waiting for Nate, she decided to get ready for the day. When she went into her bathroom to grab a brush she looked in the mirror and….Ahhhhhh! Lily’s face had pimples all over them and had a mole on her nose. She noticed that her nose had gotten bigger since yesterday. The doorbell rang. “Crap, I totally forgot that Nate was coming over!” “He can’t see me like this!” Nate called her and Lily told him that she just barely threw up and needs to rest.

     (2 Hours Later)

Lily’s mom still hasn’t came home from the pharmacy. Lily was worried so she put on her hoodie and some sweats and got on her bike. Lily made sure that she had her face covered with her hoodie. As Lily was riding to the pharmacy she noticed a path that she hadn’t seen before. Lily thought that it might be a shortcut and started following it. Lily stumbled across a little cottage. She thought it was a cute little cottage and noticed her mom’s car in front of it. Lily thought that they changed this cottage into a pharmacy since the only other pharmacy was clear across town. Lily walked inside and noticed her mom and her older sister Kenna. Lily screamed!!! They had pimples all over them and had a mole on their noses! Lily’s mom told her not to freak out and that it is normal. Everyone in town has there own thing. The Jensen’s that live across the street from us are all werewolves and the Gubler’s were vampires. We are the witches of the town. Lily thought that this was all a dream and tried waking herself up, but it was not a dream.
